A superb Elizabethan inlaid oak livery cupboard, dating to 1570-1590, of desirable small proportions. An extremely rare example, beautifully carved and featuring intricate inlay work, geometric arch moulding, wonderfully carved cup and cover supports, along with a canted cupboard and a richly gadroon carved single drawer with foliate details.
In very good antique condition reassuring signs of age and including some repairs as to be expected.
This cupboard would have been commissioned during the late 16th century by a wealthy individual with the financial means to afford such a piece. Such items of furniture would have showcased the wealth and taste of the owner.
The cupboard was designed to separate into two pieces for ease of transportation .
